Here is an interesting story of my trip to Barcelona. It was a hell of a road but a beautiful trip. I learned 3 new things to keep in mind and I’m gonna write for you about it all now.

I left one Saturday, planning to stay there for 5 days. The flight was leaving in the evening so we arrived late at night in Barcelona. After a boring 2,5 hours on the plane, we got to Barcelona. We got out of the airport without any controls and went to the bus. After freezing for half an hour at the bus stop the bus finally came. If you pay in Barcelona in a bus with a card, don’t forget to check out. I was staying in a 2 star hostel in a private room. The hostel was simple although very good. The staff was really nice and helpful. The check in was easy and they didn’t even ask for corona certification.

I was in Barcelona at the end of November. The streets were full of people and there were almost no rules except wearing masks inside. People in Barcelona were really nice and tried to communicate with us even if they weren’t the best in English.

For me Barcelona was a really beautiful city. I was mostly walking or using the metro. Metro is easy to use there. A single ticket costs around 3€ and you have to check in with it. In the metro it was said and shown where you were stopping, so you didn’t have to worry about when to get off.

The sea is beautiful, yet I liked the architecture more. The famous Sagrada Famillia was enormous and it exceeded my expectations. Sadly I wasn’t inside but from the outside it was stunning and in front of it there were Christmas markets. My personal favorite is Park Güell. Maybe it is overrated but for sure it’s beautiful. The ticket costs 10€ per person. Park has stunning nature, architecture and views. It is colourful and you can see and hear parrots on the palm trees. It is known for its colourful balcony view and entrance but it also has magical paths. I also visited a few shopping centers, a Christmas market and saw one flea market.

Let’s talk about prices. I had the cheapest hotel, it cost 45€ per night. The groceries are pretty much affordable. The nice thing about souvenir shops is that you can always find a cheaper one, and also always try to negotiate. If you are not vaccinated, the prices of PCR tests are around 60-80€. Finding a place to take a test was not hard at all. They mostly work from 8 am to 6-8 pm. If you go for a test in the morning, there is a big possibility that you’ll get the result the same day in the evening. With most of the places you can order an appointment online.

Now let’s get to the messed up part of the trip – the way back.

Things to keep in mind:

  1. If you set a date of your departure, buy the tickets, don’t wait cause they can be gone
  2. When you have your tickets and you are used to check in online, never forget!
  3. Always control your belongings

We were planning to leave on Thursday. The flight we wanted to take was probably fully booked till we got to booking the ticket. We had to find another flight that was affordable for us. First we wanted to fly to Budapest but we had to change it to Vienna. We found a flight on Wednesday, the flight was almost fully booked so it was a win-win situation for us. The flight was in the morning. We got to the airport 2 hours before the flight and then we realized the catastrophe that we didn’t check in. When we finally got to the counter after half an hour the staff told us we had to pay 30€ per person for late check in, which wasn’t even a surprise, but they didn’t accept any of our cards. You need a Master card or a Visa. After calling around our family and friends thinking we won’t make it, we got a card number that was enough.

Another thing, don’t forget about the liquids in your bag. Every control is different, here because of a bottle of water we had to wait another 15 minutes just because they had to show it to us, explain and take it. The flight itself was alright, we mostly flew with Ryanair.

When we arrived, we wanted to get out of the plane as fast as possible, as most people want. There I forgot my handbag with my wallet in the plane. I realized it already in the airport but getting back was impossible. Luckily we got through the controls and the soldier was very nice and understanding. They sent us to the lost and found. Guys, there are several lost and found offices. We have been to every single one of them. People were sending us from place to place saying it is not possible to get it and that we have to wait until the next day. My head couldn’t understand why it is so hard to get one bag from a plane that just landed with all of someone’s documents. We even asked the police, they were very nice, yet they couldn’t help us. It the end I was so lucky to find my ID in my coats pocket. (Don’t blame me, I was freaking stressed.) They told us if it’s not possible to come, they will send me my stuff, we just have to fill an online formular. After a really stressful and hecking long day we got home and filled out the formular. On the next day I had an email saying they found my bag without my wallet, and if I want it I have to text them. I wrote an email saying it is impossible for the wallet to be missing (they said that the cleaning service found it after the flight, so should I assume that someone from the airport services stole it?) and that I still want my stuff back. It’s the 5th day (with the weekend) that my bag is missing and I don’t have any new information. I don’t want to make bad blood with the Vienna airport, but they should put their sh*t together.

In conclusion, I loved Barcelona, it is an amazing city but the way back was a literal hell. Of course, I’m not blaming anyone, just myself. People make mistakes and I’m writing this story to you, so you won’t make them.
