A small lovely Spanish city full with culture, amazing architecture and flamenco. It is an inland city. I spent a few days there, a very hot few days. I loved that city, but it’s no surprise cause I love Spain. Here is everything I did and some tips for you.

Travel experience

Getting to Sevilla is not hard since there is an airport. The airport is not too big so it’s very easy to find your way around. There are airport buses bringing you to or from the airport for a few €. The city also offers trams and metro but because it’s not a huge city you can easily walk through the center and attractions. They also offer hop on hop off buses or a horse-drawn carriage ride.

Hotels and food

If you are a low budget traveler like me, Sevilla is your place to be. There are a lot of hotel options for reasonable prices. I had a hotel near the city center for 40€ a night. It was an amazing hotel with great reviews.

Note: If you are looking for a hotel near the center be careful, Spanish people like to enjoy their evenings outside. It was really loud the whole night.

There are many restaurants, fast food or food stands everywhere. You can also buy cakes, ice cream and drinks. Of course the price depends on your standards. In general ice cream prices were quite high for my standards. You can also find supermarkets everywhere near you.

Note: Locals don’t really speak English. You might learn some basics in Spanish.

Places to visit

Plaza de toros

This is a bullfight ring. It also offers a museum with several exhibition rooms. It is the biggest and the most important one in Spain. If you get lucky you can also visit a bullfight. It is a place with amazing architecture and a lot of history.

Real Alcázar de Sevilla

A beautiful palace with stunning gardens. It dates back to the 1200’s and it is in the list of UNESCO World heritage sites. Nowadays it’s a museum or it’s used by the royal family of Spain when they come to visit.

Catedral de Sevilla

Another UNESCO World heritage site is the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See. It is one of the biggest churches in the world and it was completed in 1519. It has definitely breathtaking architecture and you can’t miss it.

Basílica de la Macarena

This church is standing in the Macarena district which is the working class district. It is popular among people. Near this church you can also find the fortress walls and an arch. It is a colorful and very nice little church.

Torre del Oro

It was built as a watch tower over the river. Later it also served as a prison. Today the Tower of gold is a monument that lures tourists.

Setas de Sevilla

Also called The mushrooms of Sevilla, is an installation located at La Encarnación square. It is a very interesting place but also very peaceful and with a great atmosphere. It also serves as a viewpoint, square or central market. It is a place you definitely cannot miss.

Plaza de España

This is a square in Parque de María Luisa. It is a half circle of buildings with a canal and a fountain in the center. This place will stay in my heart forever. The vibe was amazing, the view was stunning, the architecture was breathtaking. You can rent a boat, buy souvenirs and enjoy the culture. When I was there, there were artists dancing and singing, this was an amazing experience for me. The huge park offers you fountains, ponds and benches where you can just relax. In my opinion it is a must see in your life.

Note: During summer it is very hot outside. The temperature can reach over 40॰C. I recommend starting early in the morning and taking a break in the afternoon. Around 4pm it is a time when the locals also enjoy their siesta.

Get lost in the small streets

Sevilla has a labyrinth of streets. The small streets can’t even be found on the map. These streets are magical. Very small with magical architecture and vibe. Walking through you can find some lovely souvenir shops or local goods. It is 100% worth it.

Note: Control your belongings as there can be pickpockets. I found my backpack zipper opened several times, luckily I didn’t have any valuables there.

Parks, squares and streets

There are a lot of parks where you can sit and just relax. Squares with a great vibe with people dancing or singing. A lot of souvenir shops, restaurants and pubs. I enjoyed the architecture a lot. You really get the taste of the culture. It was also nice to see the locals sitting in pubs having fun and enjoying the time spent together.
