I spent 8 days in Mallorca with my family. So this post is about Mallorca, a family vacation and why I like it so much. It was at the end of May and the start of the season.
We arrived in Mallorca late in the evening. Having a hotel on the other side of the island we had to take a taxi. It was quite expensive as most of the airport taxis.
Note: The taxis are scammers there, be careful.
Finding a cheap hotel wasn’t so hard but the price of the city tax we had to pay additionally surprised us.
People speak English very well there and also German.
Cities we visited (and you should too):
- Palma
- Can Picafort
- Alcúdia
- Sa Pobla
- Pollença
Activities
- Take a walk in the cities. Mallorca has a lot of beautiful cities, get lost in the streets. I’m sure they are going to steal your heart.
- Spend some time in nature. There are several parks and forests. The sea is beautiful and there are several amazing sandy beaches. You can also take a look in a Drach Caves, it is really cool. ( If you don’t like crowds, take your time and find a beach further from resorts and hotels.)
- Go for a bike. You can find a lot of bike rentals in Mallorca. It also has a lot of cycle paths through the whole island. ( Also a lot of hills! )
- Attraction parks. There are a lot of aquaparks if the sea is not enough. There is also an amazing underwater world in Palma with a delfinarium.
- Boat trips and other excursions you can fix in any city. ( You can also ask at the reception in the hotel.)
- Go shopping. There are a lot of souvenir shops and I personally had an amazing time there. You can find a lot of interesting or funny things there.
Transportation
Taking a taxi is the easiest but also the most expensive option. As it is an island there are several car rentals, I advise you to do some research so you find what you’re looking for.
Note: Be careful with renting a car while arriving late. We didn’t get the car nor the money back as the shop was already closed.
There are enough buses driving but we didn’t really figure out the times cause they never arrived on time that was on Google neither on the timetable. You can pay in the bus with cash or card. It doesn’t matter if you are in the bus for 5 minutes or an hour you always pay the same price, what is in some cases a lot and in some really cheap.
Note: It’s hard to get from one side of the island to the other with the bus as it is not going straight.
Party island/Family friendly destination
Mallorca is a holiday island therefore it offers a lot of activities for young people looking for parties and fun also for families with kids. There are a lot of activities for kids such as minizoos, aqua parks, playgrounds and so on. On the other hand there are also a lot of bars and restaurants or discos. For the lazy or older people there are beautiful beaches, also a lot of sellers trying to sell literally anything to you ( maybe also something illegal but you don’t have it from me).
I loved Mallorca and its vibe. It’s a great destination if you are looking for a holiday by the sea. I enjoyed nice moments with my family at the sea. Had great food and a lot of fun. We had enough everyday activities so we were never bored.
Note: It can be quite expensive.
